How was Crystal Inspirations born?
Ever since Rachel was a little girl, she has enjoyed
creating and dabbling in everything from candle making to wood working
to cross stitch to embroidery. Her fascination with color, texture, and
symmetry made jewelry making the logical choice to hone her artistic
ability.
Late in 2004, she fell in love with
an amethyst and Tanzanite gemstone jewelry set at a department store.
Since it was out of her price range, she made her own, using Tanzanite
crystals. She has been making gorgeously unique custom jewelry
creations ever since.
One special piece she created was a gorgeous Swarovski crystal rosary for her son's great aunt. With that inspiration, near to her heart, she opened Crystal Inspirations in December of 2005! About Our Handcrafted Jewelry
About 90% of our customers tell us that what attracts them about our handcrafted jewelry is the unique use of colors. Rachel says she cannot really pin down what inspires her to create each unique piece. Many times, something about the colors and layout of her materials just speaks to her: "I'll see certain colors and just have to put them together!"
When Rachel Genovese is creating her jewelry pieces, she puts a tiny piece of herself into each one: "Whether it is a $5 charm or a $100 necklace, I always take great time and care to ensure the highest quality construction and craftsmanship. Rachel Genovese is not only a talented, independent jewelry designer, she is also wife to a supportive husband and mother to Donovan, her six year old son, whom she describes as her "son, angel, reason for being." (Since he has inherited his mother's interest in beads, we may be offering Donovan Originals in the coming years!)
When asked what drives her in jewelry making, she responded, "I've found that there is nothing quite as relaxing as beading. No matter how stressful my day may have been, the moment I pull out my beads I can feel all of my tension start to melt away. Plus I get to create beautiful things that make other people happy while doing something that I really love. Who could ask for more?" Her goal is to create jewelry full-time, so that she can set her own schedule and have more quality time to spend with her son. Besides lampworking, she would like to expand her skills and techniques in other ways as well. (chain maille, casting, precious metal clay, etc). "The lampworking may have to wait," she says, "until I'm a little more comfortable with the whole 1 house + 1 young boy + 1 butane torch equation."
When Rachel is not handling customers or creating beautiful jewelry for you, she enjoys
- Spending time with her family
- Embracing the artistic ability she inherited from a long line of crafting family, in many other forms besides jewelry making
- Working on new techniques for introducing something fabulous in the future
- Making French beaded flowers for local customers (the entire flower is made from tiny beads, creating a lasting masterpiece that looks surprisingly real)
- Playing video games and watching horror movies (Rachel says she has an insatiable interest in anything involving ghosts or spirits.)
- Reading and solving puzzles
